As we age, there are a lot of anatomical and physiological changes that occur in the brain and spinal cord tissues. Our group, in collaborations with a gerontologist Dr. May Reed, is examining the neurovascular changes to the brain during normal aging and in Alzheimer’s disease using our innovative ultrasound imaging approaches.

Although the aging brain is studied quite extensively, there are very few studies examining how the spinal cord tissue and its vasculature changes with age. Our group is the first to examine the aged spinal cord and alterations in intraspinal vasculature with unprecedented temporal and spatial resolutions using intravital ultrasound imaging.
